What a roof replacement costs in Baton Rouge

Ranges, not a single number, plus the four things that actually move the price on your house.

Anybody who gives you a single number for a roof replacement without seeing your house is guessing. What we can give you honestly is ranges, and the reasons a house lands at the top or the bottom of one.

Working ranges in Greater Baton Rouge

  • Architectural asphalt shingle, full tear-off: most single-storey homes here land in the mid-teens to mid-twenties of thousands of dollars. Larger or steeper homes go higher.
  • Standing seam metal, 24-gauge: typically two to two-and-a-half times the shingle figure for the same roof, with a service life that reflects it.
  • Repairs: a genuine repair, flashing, boots, a slipped section, is usually a few hundred to a few thousand, and we would rather sell you that than a roof you do not need.

Those are 2026 ranges for this market and they move with material pricing. We put a firm number in writing after an inspection, and it is the number you pay unless we find something under the shingles and show you a photo of it first.

Four things that actually move the price

1. Squares, not square feet

Roofers price in squares (100 square feet of roof surface). A 2,400 square foot house with a complex hip roof can carry far more roof area than a 2,400 square foot house with a simple gable.

2. Pitch and access

Anything above about 7/12 needs additional safety measures and slows the crew down. Two-storey homes, tight lot lines, long driveways and mature trees all add labour and disposal cost. We quote access honestly instead of discovering it on day one.

3. Decking condition

In this climate, older roofs frequently have soft or delaminated decking that only reveals itself at tear-off. We state a per-sheet replacement price in the original quote so there is no surprise, and we photograph everything we replace.

4. Layers and code work

A second layer doubles tear-off and disposal. Current code may also require ventilation or fastening upgrades that were not on the original roof. This is why we do not do layovers: covering a failing roof hides the problem and shortens the new roof's life.

What a suspiciously cheap quote is leaving out

Compare quotes line by line, not by total. The items commonly missing: full tear-off, new synthetic underlayment, new drip edge and flashing (not reused), pipe boots, ridge ventilation, the permit and photo documentation now required on Louisiana reroofs, debris disposal, and a manufacturer warranty that actually requires a certified installer. Our GAF Master Elite page explains which warranties only certified contractors can register.

Paying for it

If the roof is storm-related, an insurance claim may cover most of it beyond your deductible, see what your claim entitles you to. If it is age, there is financing with a soft-pull pre-qualification that does not affect your credit score to check.

For a real number on your roof rather than a range, book an inspection and we will measure it properly.
